What are my choices?

Today there are quite a few attractive options for an array of home and office finishes. As the client you will want to maximize the potential of any finishing material you use in your space. Natural stones are some of the best material choices available in the modern market. Granite, Marble and Onyx are some of the natural stones we have on offer. Natural stone will give your surfaces a sleek, aesthetically pleasing appearance comparable to the high-end finishes you've seen in luxury hotels and large corporate offices, and now with PH Granite & Marble Ltd, they are also affordably priced.

What is Granite?

Granite is an igneous rock. This means it is formed mostly from the molten lava which seeps up from below the earth's crust and cools slowly over millions of years. During this cooling process, that lava comes into contact with other minerals in the earth, some of which cause chemical reactions. This mixture and chemistry is what causes the very distinct and unique patterns found in decoratively used granite. Slabs are cut from the earth rock and are prepared and polished to be used as finishes in a wide variety of environments.

Where does Granite come from?

Granite comes from granite quarries which are found across the world on all major continents. The United States, Italy, India, China and Brazil are just a few of the countries where granite is mined. PH Granite & Marble Ltd, sources granite from a variety of locations. This ensures that our clients receive the highest quality product.

What is Marble?

Marble is a metamorphic rock. This means it is formed by the transformation of existing rock types. The original rock is subject to extremely high temperatures (excess of 200 degrees Celsius) and extremely high pressures causing physiological and chemical changes in the make up.  Marble has a refined, regal finish to it that will beautify any surface to which it is applied. PH Granite & Marble Ltd carries a gorgeous selection for all type of uses.

What is Onyx?

Onyx is a banded form of cryptocrystalline from silica composed of fine mineral combinations which include quartz and moganite. The colours of its bands range from white to include almost every other colour. The most common specimens of Onyx contain bands of black and white.

Why is natural stone better?

Of all the finishing and surfacing materials you can acquire, natural stone is by far the most durable, and aesthetically pleasing. The attractiveness is unsurpassed by any other counter top finish and brings atmosphere of prestige to your home, office or where ever it is applied. The dense, non-porous stone is ideal for withstanding the work load of the busiest kitchen. The singe of sweltering cookware, the chill of freezing food items and even the occasional blow from a fallen plate or pot, do nothing to compromise the integrity of a well built natural stone finish.

How much maintenance is necessary?

For such a high end and beautiful product, most natural stone finishes are extremely low maintenance. Granite counter tops for example can take quite a beating and still look as nicely as the day you had them installed. The surface on which the granite must rest needs to be level. This will ensure sound structural support which will prevent sagging and eventually cracking. We recommend keeping your surface clean, avoiding heavy, blunt blows to it and re-applying a granite sealant, at least every 2 years

How long will my finished product last?

Durability is a major concern for any budget conscious consumer. We at PH Granite & Marble Ltd, know that you'll want your top to last That's not a problem! Provided you treat your surface in accordance with the manufacturers specifications, your natural stone finish should last you a lifetime.

Will it crack or chip?

Its not  very easy for granite surfaces to crack or chip. That said, nothing is indestructible. Just as treating your granite right will ensure it lasts a lifetime, treating it badly will probably promote the appearance of cracks, chips and fissures. Resting on an uneven (non-level) surface, sharp hard blows to your finished product and exerting high pressures on it for prolonged periods  are some of the most common causes of damage.

Can it be repaired if damaged?

Fortunately, most damage can be repaired! Repairs of course will vary, depending on the type and the degree of damage suffered. At PH Granite & Marble Ltd we are only too happy to come out and take a look at your surface and do an assessment on what repairs, if any, can be carried out, even if your job was not done by us.
